Håkan Strand, born in 1959, lives in Stockholm, Sweden. His passion for black and white photography started back in the early seventies. Most of his photography is done in low light situations where there is an interaction between light and darkness, such as at dusk and dawn. He often works with unusually long exposures in order to reduce the landscape into elemental, graphic shapes. He likes to work in bad weather: snowstorms, mist, fog, or just under an endless dull and greyish sky. These conditions make the perfect ingredients for his atmospheric and sometimes moody works.
